some stuff happenning around now as part of the London Design Festival that i might see. stuff other than Open House which is yesterday and today and i have yet to work out what to see...
Tent London, ends today. Truman brewery, looks like a big design/craft/vintage fair.. probably won't go in favour of openhouse.
The Deptford Project - cafe in a train, and some other bits - the DeptfordProjectGaffs, some huts, not sure when they are there til.
also nearby, the 24hr Design&Make - exhibition on til this friday

now to find some houses to visit.

2nd-Jun-2008 07:56 pm - magazines
night eye
i wonder if there are loads of really interesting magazines out there that i'll never see? probably. this person certainly thinks so magculture.com. went to the Tillmans show, it's great. they have a cabinet with his publications in and there's a magazine there called 032C which i'd never heard of. he did a piece on Cecil Balmond, who is also great (Informal is the only book about engineering i really like and not just for the pictures). i'm going to try and get hold of a copy (of the magazine), but i expect it's gone now, winter 07/08.
my favorite pieces were the 2 big framed photo-paper photocopies of photos, i liked how the graduation ceremony looked like the bees in their beehive, moving around. and i really like the Lighter stuff where the shadows from the acrylic frames make the images.

an online archive of Pelican book covers, by decade (if you have some lurking at home, perhaps they'd like to hear from you) http://www.thingsmagazine.net/projects/pelican.htm

old-fashioned fabric prints and clothing http://www.stjudes.co.uk/index.htm and http://www.old-town.co.uk/

art (some of it looks rather old-fashioned too in a nice way) http://stjudesgallery.co.uk/index.htm
including the wonderful Rob Ryan http://www.misterrob.co.uk/ or http://rob-ryan.blogspot.com/ (i saw a magazine article at Christmas about a new book made of papercut illustrations, i thought it was his style, but i can't find any reference to it, anyone know what it is?)
and while i'm at it - Georgia Russell is amazing

to go and see:
I Am Ten - ten years of the East London Printmakers. showing at Bankside gallery until 4th feb.
Shadowy, 3 artists paintings (including a friend) at Standpoint gallery, Hoxton, until 16 feb.

and lastly, this is quite cute: http://3191.visualblogging.com/
6th-Nov-2007 11:45 pm - country living fair
tower
i have 2 spare tickets to the Country Living Christmas Fair.
it's a week and a half away, on the Saturday 17th November, at the Business Design Centre at Angel.
the tickets are £11 each for entry 9.30 til 6.
i went last year and yes, there's a lot of rather sickly sweet seasonal decorations and stuff, but also a lot of good crafts stands. it's quite big so there's a decent-sized craft fair mixed in there, including some clothing and accessories, plus a separate foody bit.
i'm going too (but you don't have to go with me)

i also noticed penguin doing these blank books. cute idea.

http://youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/

interesting site of design stuff that's been ripped off by others. some more convincingly than others.

came across it cos of the noise about the Sony ad with the plasticine bunnies being allegedly based on this image by Kozyndan. they say: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kozyndan/1485005315

the boy is a fan and we have a few of their posters, though i hadn't seen their rainbow bunnies before.

er... this week i seem to be mostly wearing my Consumer Hat or goggles or whatever they are.
4 small lumps of concrete for a mere 570euros plus postage (for 10kg)? the pretty LiTraCon lamp
simple and cute - the SunLamp by Suck UK. (not really like the sun though, eh? too orange and not very bright...)
also simple and pushing my picture frame and photos buttons - the Slide Light by the same.

really now i ought to go to bed.
