15th-Jul-2009 08:39 pm - lupe photos
night eye
C gave me a lupe so i took some photos with it at the weekend, just messing around. focussing is way off as i had to do it manually on a little digital compact, which isn't great. the lupe focusses past the page somewhere. not sure whether to put these in the analogue or digital drawer...
also, a doodly drawing. the train helped. better than nothing, right?

night eye
last night i spent some time looking at gapingvoid, i don't connect to a lot of it, the business/marketing stuff especially, so i don't check it regularly, but i love the honesty of the cartoons. i have this thing generally for a body of work that is the output, the embodiment or whatever, of a particular mind and person. hence Tillmans being my favorite artist even though it's hard to pick out singular pieces. so, these cartoons, i might not like what they say, i don't think i even really like the man they describe/represent, but i like that they do, sometimes funny, sad, brutal. and there are certainly some truths in there, truths that others might share in. just tried to add the widget to my sidebar but it doesn't work, i'm not sure why. so here are some i like: skilled scribbles )
19th-Sep-2008 04:55 pm - Stockholm 2008
night eye
this year i decided to join the office outing - a two-and-a-half day long trip to Stockholm, to study the residential architecture (at least in part). i managed one sketch, as light faded, from the cafe terrace of Millesgården, looking out over the sculpture park and gallery, towards the city centre. cold hands.

went to see a flat in the morning. like it. going for it. hope it will be good.
drew a nice garden while the boy was on the phone. there was a sunny patch in the grass, a ball and a small plastic chair. shadows of leaves on the tree trunk and apples turning red. didn't have my camera. find i have no patience for drawing accurately, i want visual shorthand (like architect's trees). as i kid i could spend hours meticulously drawing conkers, slippers, toys. no more.

birds
first bus of the morning. full of airport workers. fantastic noise of all the birds as we left the flat, still surprisingly dark. fantastic views on the way to the airport, passing over water, seas full of tugs and shores full of container cranes, bridges between islandsmorning half-light.

21st-Aug-2007 09:00 pm - draw
birds

so after4 months i think it's high time i continued with my drawing thing. i did do a bit for wedding decorations in july but don't have pics of it, mostly from imagination/books anyway. pen of choice is a beautiful pentel brushpen. takes a bit of getting used to though, cos you can't feel the paper through it, hardly. and the slightest pressure change gives drastically different lines.
the unedited picture post continues, then...

i wanted to draw the small fat sparrows but they kept flying off.

well, since i posted about it, i've been carrying a sketchbook around in an attempt to start drawing again.
that was a long time ago. it's still completely blank.
so far i've managed 1 single drawing on a loose bit of paper.
here it is )
